2023 rolled in with a roar in Covington as President Biden visited the City to trumpet the construction of the $3.6 billion Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project, which includes the much-awaited new Companion Bridge. This summer, the Design-Build team executing the project was selected, and the State announced a $15 million contribution toward the construction of a new parking facility to offset the loss of the current parking near the Kenton County Administration Building. As we turn to a new year, you will soon start hearing more about developments in the prelude to full-on construction of the bridge, expected to begin in 2025. Join us for the December 14th Monthly Luncheon as we host Gary Valentine, Executive Advisor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet where he currently assists Project Managers on Mega Projects. Valentine will talk about progress, schedule and commitments to the community that Covington will see with this project. Also discussed at the meeting will be the proposed Fourth Street Bridge replacement linking Newport and Covington and the planned reconfiguration of Fourth Street in the Central Business District between Johnson Street and Garrard.
Gary has spent more than three decades at KYTC, with the first 18 of those years in the District 4 Elizabethtown Office as a design engineer, project manager and preconstruction branch manager. In 2008 Gary moved to the State Highway Engineer’s Office where he served as Project Manager for the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project, as Deputy State Highway Engineer for Project Development and now as an executive advisor helping advance the Brent Spence Bridge, Interstate 69, and the Mountain Parkway.
